NASA’s Cassini’s spacecraft captured this image of Saturn’s Titan moon, showing it encircled in purple stratospheric haze.

This is a supporting image for the "Sailing With NASA" blog, which is documenting space shuttle external tank ET-134′s sea voyage from Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Moon and Saturn
Saturn moons

Taken at 16x optical zoom with the Moon and Saturn both fitting comfortably in the view.

This was taken approximately 2 hours after the occultation of Saturn by the Moon had finished.

    Nice shot.

Don’t forget to post this to the Society for Popular Astronomy group.

    Thanks Dave.

I’ve added the shot – I saw the SPA group on one of your photos but wasn’t sure whether it was "members only".

  16. CommentsDave Pearson   |  Thursday, 16 February 2012 at 7:43 pm

Well, yeah, it is members only (okay, I made that bit up). Assuming you’re going to join at some point in the future (nudge, nudge).

Failing that, let it be a constant reminder that you should join. ;)

  17. CommentsNick Bramhall   |  Thursday, 16 February 2012 at 8:24 pm

Okay, put me down as a future member – just as soon as I stop being a poor student!
