Question by The Village Idiot: How many extrasolar planets have been discovered now after the new one around Gliese 876?
What is the distance to the red dwarf Gliese 876 from Earth? I have heard differing ranges from 15-20.5 Light Years.

I think you mean 581c. It takes 20 light years to reach it.

    As of 24 April 2007 227 extrasolar planets have been discovered.

    The distance to Gliese 581 C is given as 20.5 light years.

    The star is Gliese 581, and this is the second planet definitely found around it, with a third suspected. There are now 225 known or suspected extra-solar planets.
    Gliese 581 is 20.4 lightyears away according to the Hipparcos catalog, and is located in Libra. It is an M2.5V red dwarf.
    Wilhelm Gliese died several years ago at the age of 78. He worked out of an observatory associated with Heidelburg.
